How To Do Black Hat Black Hat USA is "the big show", our industry's top venue for vulnerability research. The trade press will have no problem pointing you towards the flashiest talks this year, from iPhone XS vulnerabilities to tricking autonomous vehicles. Those talks will be great, but so are a lot of talks that won't get pre-show writeups. I've been speaking at, attending, and reviewing Black Hat talks for 20 years and have learned a thing and a half about how this event ticks. I'd like to take a few minutes to highlight some of the “talks behind the talks”: the fundamental research work that enables the high-profile results, that impacts everything from phones to toasters, that sets the scene for the upcoming year in vulnerability research, or that maybe were just beloved by the Review Board this year and deserve an extra spotlight. |

Influence Management and Win Presentations Every year great ideas and countless perspectives go unshared as companies build walls around their employees, processes, and relationships. In extreme but not uncommon situations, these companies make their employees pull accepted presentations leaving the conference scrambling to fill the void. What these organizations don't understand is they are missing out on tangible benefits due to fear of a potentially non-existent scenario. This fear creates a culture of silence that can stifle innovation and hinder efforts to attract and retain talent. Whether you are trying to gain support for presentations or have an organization with a history of saying no, this talk will arm you with a set of actionable steps to guide discussions at your organization. We will highlight the benefits of presenting at security conferences and address common misconceptions that often plague these conversations. Let's start turning no into yes. |
